Most executive coaches have one credential. A military background. A coaching certification. Or an academic foundation in psychology. Very few have all three — and fewer still have spent decades applying all three under conditions where the cost of failure was not a missed quarter.

Manu Velanegra is a former U.S. Army Special Operations Psychological Operations Team Chief, an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), and a doctoral researcher in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. His coaching methodology was not built in a classroom. It was built in the field.

The question

How do people maintain clarity, purpose, and effective action when facing pressure, uncertainty, and change?

"High performance is not the absence of pressure. It is the ability to maintain clarity when pressure is at its highest."

Manu spent approximately twenty years in the United States Army in progressively demanding leadership positions. As a combat medic, he made critical decisions in environments defined by uncertainty, chaos, and rapidly changing conditions. These were not simulations. The consequences were real. That experience produced a foundational insight: high performance is not the absence of pressure. It is the ability to maintain clarity, discipline, and effective decision-making when pressure is at its highest.

Later, as a Psychological Operations specialist and team chief, his focus shifted from physical survival to human behavior. He spent years analyzing influence, persuasion, decision-making, propaganda, and the psychological forces that shape how people think and act. This work required him to evaluate competing narratives, understand human motivation, identify manipulation, and maintain independent judgment in environments specifically designed to influence perception.

The combination produced a concept he now calls psychological sovereignty — the ability to remain in control of one's thoughts, emotions, judgment, and behavior regardless of external circumstances. It is the foundation of everything he teaches.

Formation

Three disciplines. One methodology.

Built in the field.

Experience & credentials

  • Military

U.S. Army Special Operations — PSYOP Team Chief

Twenty years of leadership in progressively demanding environments — from combat medic making life-or-death decisions under pressure, to Psychological Operations Team Chief analyzing influence, behavioral change, and the cognitive architecture of human decision-making. The methodology was forged here, not in a seminar room.

  • Academic

    Doctoral Research — Industrial-Organizational Psychology

Doctoral-level study in the science of human behavior in organizational contexts: leadership development, performance psychology, assessment, and the cognitive structures that drive decision-making under pressure. The science behind what the field already proved.

  • Coaching

    ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC)

Over 500 compensated coaching hours. Certified coach trainer operating across 144 countries. Coaching delivered in English, Spanish, and Arabic. The ICF PCC credential represents a rigorous standard — not a weekend certification.

The approach

Not theory. Not peacetime metrics. Every principle below was stress-tested in environments where the cost of getting it wrong was irreversible.

01

Psychological sovereignty

The ability to remain in control of one's thoughts, emotions, judgment, and behavior regardless of external circumstances. This is the central objective of every engagement — not motivation, not inspiration, but durable internal command.

02

Evidence-based methodology

Every engagement is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Coaching — a methodology with a documented evidence base. Not intuition. Not lived experience repackaged as wisdom. Rigorous, structured, and measurable.

03

Built to hold under pressure

Behavioral change that does not hold under pressure, fatigue, conflict, and ambiguity has not done its job. The goal is a leader who carries the framework internally and applies it independently — long after the formal engagement ends.

His coaching is designed to help clients develop the same psychological sovereignty, self-awareness, and behavioral discipline required to perform in demanding environments. The M.A.N.U. Framework is the delivery structure for this work.
